A fiber optic splitter, also known as a beam splitter, is based on a quartz substrate of an integrated waveguide optical power distribution device. The optical network system uses an optical signal coupled to the branch distribution. The fiber optic splitter is one of the most important passive devices in the optical fiber link. It is an optical fiber tandem device with many input and output terminals, especially applicable to a passive optical network (EPON, GPON, BPON, FTTX, FTTH etc.) to connect the MDF and the terminal equipment and to branch the optical signal.

Optical splitters, including FBT couplers and PLC splitter (Planar Lightwave Circuit) splitters

Optical splitters, including FBT (Fused Biconical Taper) couplers and PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) splitters, are common passive optical devices that split the fiber optic light into several parts by a certain ratio. A splitter with 1×2 certain ratio configuration means that it has one input and two outputs.

There are 1×4 plc splitter, 1×8 plc splitter, 1×16 plc splitter, 1×32 splitter, and so on.

Here is a table of typical losses for splitters.
